When finishing a knit T-shirt neckline with knit binding, determining the correct length and width of the binding is essential for a polished look, especially if you don’t have a pattern piece or specific measurements provided.
To calculate the length of your binding, start by measuring the circumference of the neckline on your T-shirt. Multiply this measurement by ⅞ (85%).
Then, add your seam allowance to this number to determine the final length of your binding piece.
For instance, if your neckline measures 10 inches, your binding length would be 8 ½ inches plus an additional ½ inch to account for a ¼-inch seam allowance on each end of the binding.
As for the height, a 1 ¼-inch binding height is our preferred choice, ensuring a neat and comfortable finish.
